Take an everyday cooking ingredient. Add a pinch of imagination. Throw in a few large dollops of creativity and laughter. And you have the perfect recipe for a magic spell. This is what you will learn at the new Spellcraft classes being held at the School of Hidden Knowledge towards the end of September. Whether you believe in spells or not, the very act of making one can change your attitude to situations in your life that you want to change.
You change your view. You change the emotion. And the effects of that can create a magical change on the situation.. Is it psychological? Or is it the spell working its magic? Who knows? At the end of the day it's a matter of belief - a belief held by billions of people all over the globe who actively practise spell casting, many of them unknowingly, casting them through superstition or habit.
Throwing a pinch of salt over your shoulder when you spill some, for instance, is a protection spell. Saying Good Day to a lone magpie is another protection spell. There are countless examples of people unwittingly using spells every day. Kitchenwitchery or hedgewitchery has been practised by millions since time immemorial. The art of spellcraft is only one aspect of these traditions and it's an aspect that lies in creativity and imagination. It is an aspect that is fun. It is not designed to hurt anyone or cause harm. The origins of spellcraft lie in healing. And its true magic lies in self-healing. Creating and working a spell is an act which, in itself, stops you feeling powerless or helpless. You are taking control. And that feels good. Spellcraft classes will be held at The Fortune Tellers' Tea Shop, 286 Union Street, Torre, Torquay, on Wednesdays from 11.30am to 2pm, priced £15, to include a light buffet lunch. A lot of intetest has been shown in these classes already so early booking is advised.
